Pedestal I

cone 10 stoneware, mild steel.
12 x 7 x 10 in
2025
This piece feels perfectly caught between the two spheres of my practice: both sentimental and analytical. The motif of the cypress continues here, presented surgically cut in half with a grid projected onto the surface. The tree is mounted on a pedestal with a prominent crack, which was intentionally cut out and archived on a custom steel stand.

This piece uses two forms of pedestal to demonstrate how the emotional tone of displaying objects can vary. A pedestal can be affectionate, like a childhood trophy or music box; scientific, like an animal specimen; or curious, like a museum display.
