This pair was a pleasure and pain to make: every square in the checkerboard grid and each illustration was hand-painted with either glaze or underglaze.

The cypress imagery is inspired by the manicured topiaries I’ve encountered in both Providence and Puebla, MX. I enjoyed experimenting with the placement and scale of each tree. As I arranged them, they became units of measurement, reminding me of maps and floor plans.
