These cups are excerpts from a series experimenting with ceramics printmaking techniques. Instead of painting directly onto the cups, I used underglaze screen-printing, plaster transfers, airbrushing, slip-trailing, and slip stencils to create scrapbook-like surfaces.
One of my favorite places to visit when in Mexico is stationery stores. The imagery on these cups comes from a set of unique and weirdly professional rubber stamps my mom had as a child – they feature everyday objects like radios, newspapers, and televisions, but also weirder subjects such as landfills, smoke signals, and pollution clouds.
